Cancer, my wife and I

No one sees what I see.  I am the caregiver.  The one who helps.  I live afraid.  I don’t feel the pain she does, but I see it.  The groans in the night hurt me, but no one knows.  I see the effort it takes for her to move.  The sweat pouring, dripping from her chin as she struggles to walk across the room.  Or the effort it takes to get out of bed, knowing that the day will be filled with nausea from the chemo.  I see it all. No one else, just me.  The courage, ever present, the will to live, to beat this persistent evil.  I know the pain is always there, yet at times it seems absent.  She is facing a terminal illness.  The big C.  Stage 4.  And all I can do is be here, helping.  I am her nurse,  clean house, prepare meals, make sure she takes the right pills at the right time, pay bills, or not…since we don’t have near enough money to go around.  I work, I check on her often, I pray.  Most of all, I pray.  I don’t want to accept anything.  I know what it means to say “I’ll think about it tomorrow!”  I am a good listener.  I have to be.  In a moment I can change to meet the needs.  Somber, laughing, intense, whatever it takes to help, somehow.

We need financial help.  She needs friends.  Someone to call, to say hi, to listen.  I try.  But I can’t do it all.

So many are praying with us.   And we are thankful….especially me.  For I have been blessed.  I am a caregiver.  Jesus said whatever we do for one of his little ones, we do for him….well she is his.   So I am super blessed.   Thank you God for this opportunity.

Have You Planted Your Garden with Weeds???

You succeed in bringing to a natural and logical conclusion whatever thought you permit to dominate your mind. If you harvest a crop of poverty, sickness and disharmony, it is because you have allowed the negative seeds of such thoughts to become imbedded in the soil of your subconscious mind. They have multiplied and brought forth fruit after their own kind. The law is operating in its natural, orderly fashion, but, unfortunately, you have planted the garden with weeds.

Take a look at the vacant lots in your neighborhood, or at unplowed fields: there, every spring, you will find a tremendous crop of fine, lovely, full-grown weeds. The seeds for these weeds have blown to these uncultivated places and automatically, assisted only by natural sunshine and moisture, have taken root and grown. No one has taken the time to dig them up and plant more desirable crops. And that’s exactly what happens to the average person who drifts aimlessly through life, without making up his mind as to what he wants. The more testing your faith endures, the stronger and durable it will become. When such temporary defeats come, accept them as inspiration for greater effort and determination on your part. Carry on with the belief that you will succeed.

The hardest time in our lives can be a blessing

I face a trial in my life, one that I never dreamed I would have to face.  I can’t pronounce the name of the cancer.  But I know it is there.  I am in pain most of the time now, and my days are blurred with nausea from chemo.  One short week and I am already so very tired.  I trust in God.  I believe in his son, Jesus Christ, and I am his.  I am not able to understand his plan, but I know I am a part of it.

Love the Opportunity by Jim Rohn

Somebody said you have to love what you do, but that's not necessarily true. What is true is that
you get to love the opportunity.  The opportunity to build life, future, health, success and fortune.
Making that extra call may not be something you love to do, but you love the opportunity of what
might be beyond that call.

For example, a guy says, "I'm digging ditches. Should I love digging ditches?" The answer is, "No,
you don't have to love digging ditches, but if it is your first entry onto the ladder of success, you say,
'I'm glad somebody gave me the opportunity to dig ditches and I'm going to do it so well, I won't be

You can be inspired by having found something; even though you are making mistakes in the beginning
and even though it is a little distasteful taking on a new discipline that you haven't learned before. You
don't have to love it, you just have to learn to appreciate where you live, appreciate opportunity and
